Wonderfully creepy

Ellen Rogers es una fotógrafa afincada en Londres con una mirada muy particular. Con una técnica totalmente analógica (salvo los retoques finales) nos regala imágenes que bien podrían inspirarse (o inspirar) en Tim Burton. Alegrías, tristezas, decepciones... se dan cita en sus instantáneas, siempre con un personaje femenino como figura central.

Escalofrío, pero de los buenos.

Ellen Rogers is photographer settled in London, with a very personal view. With totally analogic technic (except for the final touches) she gives us these images that can perfectly be inpired on (or inspire himself) Tim Burton's world. Joy, sadness, disappointments... gare together in these photos, always stared by a female caracther.

Shiver, of the best kind.

¡Vuelven los 60! Vuelve "The Factory" con Eddie Sedgwick, vuelve Twiggy con sus pestañas pintadas y vuelve el espíritu pop. Puede que no aquí, pero en la editorial de diciembre de Numéro China están más que de acuerdo conmigo. Adoro esta época, sus colores y su explosión de imaginación. Llegué a cortarme el pelo muy muy corto tras ver "Factory girl", en plan locura del momento (no lo hagáis).

Historias patéticas a parte, Nino Muñoz, ¡sigue fotografiando por favor!

60's are back! With "The Factory" and Eddie Sedgwick, with Twiggy and her painted eyelashes and pop spirit comes back! It may not be here again, but in the december issue of Numéro China agree sooo much with me. I love this time, its colours and it's amazing imaginary. I even arrived to cut my hair way too short after watching "Factory girl", in a moment of crazyness (don't ever do it).

Walking around with the past...

Nostalgia... Es lo que me viene a la cabeza cuando miro estas fotos. Adoro los contrastes, los juegos de transparencias, las superposiciones, y por supuesto no podía resistirme a compartir estas visiones de Spitalfields.

Cien años de historia en una serie de fotografías creadas por Adam Tuck. Las instantáneas de C.A. Mathew de 1912 más las suyas actuales dan lugar a esta maravilla que no te puede dejar indiferente. Y tú, ¿qué sientes al mirarlas?

Nostalgy... That's what I have on mind while watching these photos. I love contrasts, transparency games, superpositions, and obviousky I couldn't resist sharing these visions of Spitalfields.

One hundred years of history in this collection of photographs created by Adam Tuck. The snapshots that C.A. Mathew took in 1912 plus his actual shots join in this wonderful pictures that can't leave you indifferent. And you... What do you feel when you look at them?

Interview loves Kate!

Que Naomi Campbell y Kate Moss sean portada juntas no es algo que ocurra todos los días, de hecho, no ocurre desde 2008 (Vogue París). Y que además se entrevisten mutuamente es casi motivo suficiente para ir descorchando champán (chez moi au moins).

Fantásticas imágenes en blanco y negro de Mert Alas y Marcus Piggott que ilustran una conversación en la que se tratan temas como el racismo en la moda, y la admiración mutua que sienten, para muestra, un botón:

KATE: He leído que hiciste tu primera aparición pública en un vídeo de Bob Marley.

NAOMI: Sí. Tenía 7 años creo. Era un hombre muy atractivo, recuerdo que empecé a llorar cuando vi sus rastas porque creía que eran gusanos. Pero era muy, muy amable.

[...]

KATE (sobre los prejuicios étnicos en el mundo de las modelos): Cuando fui a Nueva York por primera vez, pensaba: "De qué narices hablan?". No podría decirlo, ¿sabes? Era muy raro y además yo crecí en el sur de Londres, donde hay mucha mezcla de razas.

NAOMI: Exacto, solo conocíamos nuestra casa y donde habíamos crecido, así que todo esto nos abrió los ojos.

KATE: ¿Era una batalla que tenías que librar? ¿Todavía luchas por la igualdad en el mundo de la moda?

NAOMI: Sentía... no diría que la palabra batalla sea la correcta pero sin duda se me hacía cuesta arriba por algo. Sentí que tuve que hacer lo que tuve que hacer por mi raza y para mantener la conciencia tranquila.

Este editorial solo lo verán las ediciones rusa y alemana, pero aunque no sea en papel, nosotros también podemos disfrutar de las fotos. ¡Ah! Y otra curiosidad... el editorial se titula I love you Kate! (y nosotras queremos a Naomi también, ¿no?). 

Watching Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss covering together isn't an everyday issue, in fact, we haven't seen this since 2008 (Paris Vogue). But the thing that they also interview each other is almost enough to uncork champagne (chez moi au moins). 

KATE: I read that you made your first public appearance in a Bob Marley video. 

NAOMI: Yeah. I was 7, I think. He was such a handsome man. I remember I started crying when I saw his dreadlocks because I thought they were worms. But he was really, really gentle.

KATE (on ethnic prejudice in the modeling world): When I first got to New York, I was like: "What are they talking about?". I couldn't tell, you know. It was really weird and also I think growing up in South London, it's so mixed race. 

NAOMI: Exactly, we just know our area and how we were raised, so it was a big eye opener to me. 

KATE: Did it feel like a battle you were fighting? And are you still fighting for equality in fashion? 

NAOMI: It felt… I can't say that the word battle is the right word but it definitely felt like it was an uphill struggle for something. I felt like I had to do what I had to do for my race and to keep awareness out there.

This editorial will only be available in German and Russian Interview, but even if it's not in paper, we can also enjoy the photos. Ah! And in case you're curious... the editorial is titled I love you Kate! (and we also love Naomi, don't we?).

Catwalk review: Total white

Miedo profundo, a ese día en el que alguien te dice: hacemos una fiesta, ¡y tienes que venir vestida totalmente de blanco! Si, queda muy cool y si es en la playa ya es lo más de lo más pero a mí lo que se me pasa por la cabeza es: es imposible estar guapa de blanco, me voy a añadir 20 kilos, ya verás al día siguiente la lavadora...

Pero tal vez esta idea esté a punto de cambiar. Ya llevamos varias temporadas "dando en el blanco", y para qué negarlo, es una de las tendencias qué más me gustan, y eso que yo soy una persona negra (que le vamos a hacer). Sin embargo, las pasarelas con estas imágenes se empeñan en hacerme cambiar de idea y olvidar que lavar es un coñazo porque si puedes estar así de estupenda... ¿por qué no estarlo?

One of my deepest fears, that one day when someone tells you: we're doing a party, and you have to wear total white! Yep, it's cool and if it's on the beach it couldn't be better but what I really think in these cases is: it's physically impossible to be pretty in white, I'm gonna add myself 15 pounds, next day's washing is gonna be epic...

But maybe this idea is about to change. There's been a few seasons since we started seeing total white looks, and I won't deny it, it's one of my very favourite trends, even if I'm a black person (nothing to do about it, I've tried). However, this runaway images are so determined to make me change my mind and forget the washing machine thing because if you can look this gorgeous... why don't go for it?

Weddings and the beach. Elle Spain November 2012

¡¡Hola de nuevo!! Mucho trabajo y proyectos después... una entrada rápida para demostrar que no me he olvidado de esto. Tengo preparado algo mejor, pero mientras llegue... me enamoré de la calidez de éste editorial, como estoy enamorada de las bodas en la playa. Recién casados.

Hello again!! After a lot of work and projects... a quick post just to show that I haven't forgotten this. I have something better coming, but while you wait... I fell in love with the warmth of this editorial, as I'm in love with beach weddings. Just married.

Trend Alert! Kitten Heels

Quién nos lo iba a decir, a nosotras, que pensábamos que el mayor estatus del estilo era llevar unos tacones imposibles (si sabes andar con ellos claro está), de esos que te hacen unas piernas kilométricas, de esos que te hacen combatir contigo misma entre ir guapa y cómoda, que volverían los tacones bajos, los que tiene tu madre y te gustaría que dejara de tener, pero también (ironía), los que llevaba Audrey, y a ella si se lo vemos diferente eh?

Pues bien, el que Louboutin creara para Carla Bruni unos zapatos de menos de 10 cm de tacón fue el principio del fin. Y es que la pobre primera dama no podía andar por ahí siendo una cabeza más alta que el presi de la France. ¿Dónde vamos a parar? Pasa lo mismo con Michelle Obama.

Who would think that low heels would be back from the deepest part of our mother's closet, those heels that we hate but we won't anymore, those heels that our beloved Audrey (irony) made famous. Us, the people that thought that the ultimate style laid on impossible heels (if you know how to walk on them), those that make your legs look kilometrical, those that impose an interior fight between being beautiful or comfortable. People, low heels are back to stay!

The begining of the end was Louboutin creating pumps of less than 10 cm for Carla Bruni. Because the poor first lady couldn't be taller than the president of la France. The same issue for Michelle Obama.

Por ahí se empieza, pero luego llega Valentino con sus salones de tachuelas que enamoraron, Louis Vuitton con sus zapatitos de niña buena, las declaraciones de Nicholas Kirkwood ("un tacón bajo puede ser cool, y puede ser jóven también) y así hasta la firma Charlotte Olympia, que parecía no ser nada sin sus exageradas plataformas, y ahora crea un stiletto de 5 cm... ¿qué está pasando?

That was the beginning, after that Valentino came with their lovely studded pumps, Louis Vuitton with the naivety, words by Nicholas Kirkwood ("A low heel can be cool, and young too") and then on until Charlotte Olympia, who seemed to be nothing without their exaggerated platforms, creates a 5 cm stiletto... What is going on?

Pues pasa que la comodidad y la sensatez ganan terreno a todo lo demás, y pasa también que después de los zapatos armadillo de Alexander McQueen ¿quién podía dar más? 

Este año, la pasarela y la calle se rinden al zapato bajo, porque el estilo no es directamente proporcional a la altura del tacón.

 Well, the thing is that comfort and sanity are becoming more important issues, and it's also going on that after Alexander McQueen's armadillo heels, who could do more?

This year, both catwalk and streetstyle go for kitten heels, because style is not directly proportional to the height of the heel.
