Life in a bubble

"Over New York" New York, 1963

Photographers: that figure of the voguette world, nowadays even considered almost semi-gods. Girls fight thoughout the steet with their vintage bikes just to get to be shot by Scott Schuman, not mentioning what they'd do to pose in front of Mario Testino or Terry Richardson's eyes (I can imagine heads rolling "Sleepy Hollow"- like).
Once upon a time a 21 year old unknown photografer could make history in fashion's world thanks to  some little works of art published by Harper's Bazaar in 1963: "The Bubble Series".
Melvin Sokolsky portrays Simone D'Aillencourt inside a huge plexiglas bubble floating above Paris (except the only colored picture, which is placed in NY). Are models such a delicate object that they live isolated inside their own atmosphere? Or the delicate and precious are the clothes they're wearing? And other questions that seem to appear when we get mystical...
Timeless images that introduce us to Melvin Sokolsky's enchanted world (who, I promise will appear usually in this blog).

Taking a photography is an unspoken conversation in a shared space where the sitter and the maker reveal their being in a kind of silent dance of escalating trust and affinity."
